📋 Job Description

📌 Key Responsibilities

• Acquire intraoral periapical radiographs and bitewing X-rays using digital sensors or phosphor plates as directed by the dentist for caries detection, periapical assessment, and bone level evaluation.
• Operate the OPG (orthopantomogram) machine for full-arch panoramic radiographs requested for implant planning, impaction assessment, and orthodontic case evaluation.
• Position patients correctly for each radiographic view by adjusting the X-ray tube head, sensor or film placement, and bite block positioning to achieve diagnostic image quality.
• Apply radiation protection measures including lead aprons and thyroid collars on patients and bystanders, maintain personal TLD badge, and follow AERB radiation safety protocols for dental X-ray operation.
• Assess digital radiograph quality on the monitor immediately after acquisition and repeat exposures only when the image is non-diagnostic, minimising unnecessary radiation to the patient.
• Operate CBCT units where available for three-dimensional imaging required for implant placement planning, impacted third molar assessment, and endodontic evaluation.
• Maintain the dental X-ray machine by performing daily warm-up procedures, cleaning sensors and positioning equipment, and logging equipment faults for biomedical engineering attention.

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• Diploma in Dental Radiography or completion of an AERB-recognised dental X-ray operator training programme with radiation safety certification.
• Proficiency in intraoral radiographic techniques including periapical, bitewing, and occlusal views using digital sensor or phosphor plate (PSP) systems.
• Experience in OPG machine operation including correct patient positioning for panoramic radiographs with minimal ghost shadows and positioning errors.
• Knowledge of radiation protection principles including ALARA, lead shielding, collimation, and occupational dose monitoring applicable to dental radiography.
• Awareness of AERB licensing requirements for dental X-ray operation including TLD badge submission schedules and annual dose limit compliance.
• Ability to assess digital X-ray image quality for diagnostic acceptability including adequate density, contrast, correct anatomical coverage, and absence of movement blur.
• Familiarity with CBCT image acquisition protocols and basic CBCT viewer navigation for implant planning support is an advantage for senior roles.
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Coimbatore.
