📌 Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the dental chair area before each patient appointment by setting up sterile instrument trays, loading materials, and positioning suction, air-water syringes, and lighting equipment.
• Assist the dentist chair-side during restorative, extraction, and surgical procedures by providing suction, tissue retraction, instrument passing, and cement or material mixing.
• Perform pre-sterilisation cleaning of used instruments by scrubbing, rinsing, and placing them in the autoclave cycle following the clinic's infection control protocol.
• Mix dental materials including impression material, zinc oxide eugenol paste, glass ionomer cement, and composite materials as directed by the dentist during treatment.
• Seat patients in the dental chair, explain the procedure preparation steps, adjust the chair position, and reassure anxious patients before the dentist enters.
• Assist with dental radiograph positioning by placing X-ray sensors or film, positioning the tube head, and ensuring the patient holds correctly during exposure.
• Segregate clinical waste into colour-coded biomedical waste bins, dispose of sharps in puncture-proof containers, and maintain a clean treatment room between appointments.

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• 12th pass from a recognised board with a certificate in dental assistant training or dental clinic sterilisation from a vocational training institute.
• Basic familiarity with dental instruments including explorers, scalers, elevators, forceps, and handpieces to pass instruments correctly during procedures.
• Knowledge of sterilisation techniques including autoclave operation, cold sterilisation, and dry heat oven use for heat-sensitive materials.
• Ability to mix common dental materials including impression materials, cement bases, and glass ionomer cements as per manufacturer directions.
• Physical dexterity and the ability to stand for extended periods during lengthy dental procedures in a clinical setting.
• Good interpersonal skills in Tamil and English for communicating with patients to explain seating procedures and manage pre-treatment anxiety.
• Understanding of biomedical waste segregation rules applicable to dental clinics including sharps disposal, clinical waste bags, and mercury amalgam handling.
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Chennai.
