📌 Key Responsibilities

• Perform supragingival and subgingival scaling and root planing procedures on patients referred by the dentist for periodontal maintenance, pre-treatment cleaning, and gingivitis management.
• Operate ultrasonic scalers and hand scalers including Gracey curettes for supra and subgingival deposit removal, following the dentist's treatment plan for each patient.
• Perform six-point periodontal charting to document pocket depths, bleeding on probing, furcation involvement, and gingival recession for baseline and progress records.
• Provide structured oral hygiene instruction to patients covering correct brushing technique, interdental cleaning with floss or interdental brushes, and tongue cleaning.
• Apply topical fluoride gels or varnish on patients with elevated caries risk as directed by the dentist, especially for paediatric patients and patients with xerostomia.
• Place pit and fissure sealants on newly erupted first and second permanent molars of paediatric patients as directed by the dentist for preventive caries management.
• Educate patients with systemic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease on the link between periodontal health and general medical health as part of the dental hygiene counselling session.

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• Diploma or Certificate in Dental Hygiene from a DCI-recognised institution with demonstrated proficiency in scaling and root planing techniques.
• Proficiency in supragingival and subgingival scaling using ultrasonic scalers and Gracey curettes with minimal patient discomfort and effective deposit removal.
• Ability to complete a six-point periodontal chart accurately for new patient baseline assessments and recall monitoring appointments.
• Skills in delivering structured oral hygiene instruction to patients of all age groups including children, adults, and elderly patients with varying dexterity levels.
• Knowledge of fluoride application protocols and pit and fissure sealant placement for preventive dental hygiene management in paediatric patients.
• Good communication skills in Tamil and English for patient education, motivational interviewing for oral hygiene compliance, and dietary counselling for caries-prone patients.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred for handling medical emergencies such as syncope or allergic reactions that may occur during dental hygiene appointments.
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Chennai.
