📌 Key Responsibilities

• Sort inbound passenger baggage at the baggage make-up area by flight number and destination and load onto the correct baggage cart for delivery to the departure gate or aircraft hold
• Operate baggage conveyors and baggage belts in the baggage hall to ensure inbound baggage is transferred accurately and promptly to the arrivals carousel for passenger collection
• Handle oversized and special baggage items including sporting equipment, pushchairs, and musical instruments and deliver them to the oversized baggage belt or special delivery area
• Conduct baggage reconciliation checks to ensure all checked-in bags for each departing flight are accounted for in the hold before aircraft departure
• Manage interline baggage transfer for transit passengers by identifying connecting flight tags, re-routing bags to the correct make-up area, and confirming transfer with the load controller
• Report missing, mishandled, or damaged baggage to the duty supervisor and initiate the property irregularity report (PIR) process for affected passengers
• Operate baggage tugs and trailers to transport baggage carts between the baggage hall, sorting area, and aircraft hold positions on the apron
• Maintain cleanliness and order in the baggage make-up and baggage claim areas and remove uncollected items as per airport lost property procedures

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• 12th pass from a recognized board
• 0 - 3 Years of experience in baggage handling or airport ground handling at a private ground handling company; freshers with AVSEC certification are considered
• Valid AVSEC certification from a BCAS-recognized training institute and eligibility to obtain a valid APOC airport entry pass
• Physical fitness to lift and sort baggage items of varying weights and to work long shifts in the baggage hall and apron areas
• Basic knowledge of baggage tagging, interline transfer procedures, and baggage carousel operation at a domestic or international airport
• Willingness to work rotating shifts covering early morning, late night, and weekend operations aligned with flight schedules at Chennai airport
• Attention to detail for baggage reconciliation to prevent mishandled baggage departures, which are a key service quality metric for ground handling companies
