📌 Key Responsibilities

• Review shipper-provided dangerous goods declarations for compliance with IMDG Code requirements including correct UN number, proper shipping name, class, packing group, and quantity
• Prepare and verify DG manifest entries for vessel stowage planning team to ensure correct IMDG segregation of hazardous containers on the bay plan
• Coordinate with shippers and freight forwarders to obtain compliant MSDS (material safety data sheets) and DG packing certificates before acceptance
• File required dangerous goods notifications with the port authority, terminal operator, and customs in the format required for Chennai Port and Ennore Port procedures
• Review IATA DGR compliance for dangerous goods being shipped by air freight and prepare or verify shipper's declaration for dangerous goods for air consignments
• Advise operations, documentation, and sales teams on IMDG and IATA DGR classification, packaging, labeling, and placarding requirements for specific cargo
• Maintain DG cargo records including declaration files, stowage instructions, and incident logs as required by shipping line and regulatory policy
• Participate in DG incident response coordination and provide initial guidance on emergency procedures referenced in the IMDG Code or IATA DGR emergency response guides

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• Graduate degree from a recognized institution
• 0 - 3 Years of experience in dangerous goods documentation, hazardous cargo compliance, or shipping documentation roles; freshers with IMDG or IATA DGR certification are preferred
• IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) category 6 or category 7 certification is strongly preferred and may be mandatory for this role
• Working knowledge of IMDG Code structure including class definitions, UN number system, packing groups, and segregation requirements
• Familiarity with MSDS review for chemical cargo and the ability to verify completeness and accuracy of shipper DG declarations
• Good attention to regulatory detail and the discipline to apply compliance requirements consistently across all hazardous cargo bookings
• Willingness to stay updated on IMDG and IATA DGR edition changes and communicate regulatory updates to operations and sales teams
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Chennai.
