📌 Key Responsibilities

• Conduct cargo condition surveys for import and export consignments at Chennai Port to assess damage, contamination, or shortage and prepare survey reports for insurance and legal purposes
• Perform hull and machinery surveys on vessels, barges, and small craft to assess physical condition, corrosion, and fitness for continued operation
• Execute draught surveys to determine cargo weight loaded or discharged from bulk carriers by measuring vessel displacement before and after cargo operations
• Conduct on-hire and off-hire condition surveys for chartered vessels on behalf of ship owners and charterers and document vessel condition at handover
• Correspond with P and I clubs, hull and machinery underwriters, and marine insurance brokers on survey findings and claim documentation support
• Prepare detailed written survey reports with photographic evidence, cargo condition descriptions, measurement data, and causation analysis
• Perform IICL-standard container condition inspections for leasing companies and shipping lines operating container equipment at Chennai Port
• Coordinate with ship captains, chief officers, cargo surveyors, and terminal managers to access cargo and vessel spaces during survey assignments

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• B.E. in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution, or ex-Merchant Navy officer (Class 4 MMD or above) with sea service; IICL container surveyor certification preferred
• 2 - 8 Years of experience in marine survey, vessel operations, or cargo survey work in a private survey firm or shipping company
• Practical experience conducting cargo condition surveys, draught surveys, or hull inspections in a port or anchorage environment
• Knowledge of IICL container inspection standards and the ability to conduct box condition assessments against IICL criteria
• Understanding of P and I club correspondence procedures and the documentation requirements for marine cargo and hull claims
• Strong technical report writing skills with the ability to prepare clear, evidence-based survey reports that withstand legal scrutiny
• Willingness to work at Chennai Port, Ennore Port, anchorage, and vessel locations at any time of day or night as survey assignments require
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Chennai.
