📌 Key Responsibilities

• Supervise cargo loading and discharging operations at the berth including gang allocation, equipment positioning, and hatch opening sequences
• Manage port labour gangs assigned to each hatch or berth and ensure the correct number of workers are deployed per shift to meet vessel operation targets
• Coordinate with crane operators, forklift drivers, and equipment operators to ensure safe and efficient movement of cargo between vessel and quayside
• Conduct cargo tally counts at every hatch and verify cargo count, marks, and condition against the vessel's cargo manifest during loading and discharging
• Identify and document cargo damage at the point of loading or discharging including marks, photographs, and tally clerk sign-off for the survey record
• Enforce port safety rules including PPE usage, gang working area demarcation, crane swing exclusion zones, and incident reporting at the berth
• Report shift-wise cargo operation progress to the stevedoring manager including tonnes loaded or discharged, gang productivity, and exceptions
• Coordinate with the vessel's chief officer and port operations team to resolve cargo sequence, hatch plan, and gear availability issues during operations

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• Graduate degree from a recognized institution
• 1 - 5 Years of experience in stevedoring, port cargo operations, or berth operations supervision in a private port services environment
• Practical knowledge of cargo loading and discharging sequences, gang allocation, and hatch operations at a general cargo or container berth
• Understanding of cargo tally procedures including piece count, mark verification, and damage documentation under the Bill of Lading
• Knowledge of port safety requirements for stevedoring operations including PPE standards, crane exclusion zones, and hazardous cargo handling
• Ability to manage port labour gangs and resolve productivity issues, absenteeism, and operational exceptions during shift operations
• Physical fitness for berth-side supervisory work including walking on vessels, climbing gangways, and working in port environments in all weather conditions
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Chennai.
