📌 Key Responsibilities

• Own the revenue, volume, and profitability of one or more assigned ocean freight trade lanes from Chennai including market positioning, pricing strategy, and customer portfolio development
• Set and manage freight rate authority for the trade lane including spot rates, contract rates, and surcharge structures for sales team use and direct key account negotiations
• Develop and grow a portfolio of key exporter and importer accounts on the trade lane through direct calling, relationship management, and value-added service proposals
• Coordinate with carrier partners, alliance members, and vessel operators on space allocation, sailing schedules, and equipment positioning for the trade lane
• Monitor trade lane market intelligence including competitor rate movements, new service entries, port congestion, and trade flow shifts and adjust pricing strategy accordingly
• Lead the freight sales team assigned to the trade lane by setting targets, reviewing pipeline, coaching on large deals, and escalating rate approvals
• Prepare trade lane P and L reports covering revenue per TEU, yield per trade lane, volume trend, and contribution margin for monthly management review
• Represent the company at trade bodies, industry associations, and shipper forums relevant to the trade lane's cargo community in Chennai

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• MBA from a recognized institution or Graduate with strong ocean freight commercial track record
• 5 - 12 Years of experience in ocean freight commercial roles with at least 3 years in trade lane management or senior freight sales at a shipping line
• Proven track record of owning and growing ocean freight revenue on a specific trade lane with measurable volume and yield improvement
• Deep understanding of ocean freight pricing mechanics including rate components, surcharge structures, rate authority systems, and contract rate negotiation
• Experience managing key exporter and importer accounts in Chennai or Tamil Nadu at a senior commercial level with contract renewal and volume growth outcomes
• Strong coordination skills with carrier and alliance partners for space management, equipment, and service reliability discussions
• Analytical approach to trade lane P and L management and the ability to balance yield optimization with volume growth objectives
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Chennai.
