📌 Key Responsibilities

• Receive and accession biopsy and surgical pathology specimens, assign accession numbers, and document specimen details in the histopathology register.
• Perform gross examination assistance by measuring, sectioning, and sampling representative tissue blocks from received specimens under pathologist supervision.
• Process tissue samples through automated tissue processors for dehydration, clearing, and paraffin infiltration cycles as per the standard tissue processing protocol.
• Embed processed tissue blocks in paraffin wax using embedding stations, orient tissue correctly, and label blocks with accession numbers for archival.
• Cut sections at 3-5 micron thickness on rotary microtomes, float sections on water baths, mount on glass slides, and perform haematoxylin and eosin staining.
• Perform special staining procedures including PAS, Masson's trichrome, Congo red, Reticulin, and Ziehl-Neelsen as requested by the pathologist for specific diagnoses.
• Assist with immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures including antigen retrieval, primary antibody application, and DAB chromogen development for oncology panels.

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• DMLT or B.Sc. MLT with a minimum of one year of practical histopathology laboratory experience in a diagnostic or hospital setting.
• Proficiency in tissue processing using automated tissue processors, embedding in paraffin wax, and sectioning on rotary microtomes.
• Skill in haematoxylin and eosin staining and interpretation of slide quality including section thickness, staining clarity, and artefact identification.
• Knowledge of special staining techniques applicable to histopathology including PAS, Masson's trichrome, Congo red, Reticulin, and AFB stains.
• Exposure to immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures including antigen retrieval protocols and chromogen development steps.
• Ability to maintain accurate specimen accession records, block and slide registers, and archival systems for retrieval and retrospective review.
• Awareness of biosafety precautions applicable to formalin handling including respiratory protection, fume hood use, and waste disposal.
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Coimbatore.
