📌 Key Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from outpatient and home-visit patients using correct venepuncture techniques with minimal patient discomfort.
• Label, barcode, and register collected specimens accurately in the laboratory information system before dispatch to the processing department.
• Follow strict pre-analytical protocols including correct tube selection, order of draw, and sample volume requirements for each test.
• Perform capillary blood collection for paediatric patients, elderly individuals, and patients with difficult venous access.
• Maintain biosafety standards by disposing sharps correctly, wearing PPE, and decontaminating collection areas after each patient.
• Communicate test preparation instructions to patients prior to sample collection including fasting requirements and medication holds.
• Ensure timely transport of time-sensitive samples such as STAT requests and coagulation samples to the processing laboratory.

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• DMLT or B.Sc. MLT from a recognised medical institution with formal phlebotomy training or certification.
• Demonstrated proficiency in venepuncture on adult patients with a low haematoma and repeat-stick rate.
• Knowledge of tube types, anticoagulants, and correct order of draw for multi-tube collection procedures.
• Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) for sample registration and barcode printing.
• Awareness of pre-analytical variables and their impact on haematology, biochemistry, and coagulation test results.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred for handling patients who experience vasovagal episodes.
• Ability to communicate professionally with patients in Tamil and English across diverse age groups.
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Coimbatore.
