📌 Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and select plastic and rubber materials for new product applications based on mechanical, thermal, and chemical performance requirements
• Conduct failure analysis on returned components using FTIR spectroscopy, DSC, TGA, and SEM techniques
• Assess material compatibility with chemicals, fuels, and process fluids in automotive and industrial applications
• Review and maintain material data sheets, supplier certifications, and compliance documentation for REACH and RoHS
• Qualify new raw material suppliers by evaluating test certificates, processing trials, and comparative property data
• Support process engineers with material-related troubleshooting for moulding defects caused by material variability
• Maintain the company material library and conduct periodic review of approved material specifications

🎓 Qualifications and Requirements

• How do you use DSC to determine the melting point and crystallinity of a semi-crystalline polymer such as PA66?
• What FTIR technique would you use to identify an unknown polymer in a failed component and how do you interpret the spectrum?
• How do you assess whether a replacement polymer grade from a new supplier is equivalent to the approved material?
• What is the difference between REACH SVHC restriction and RoHS directive and how do they affect plastic material selection?
• Have you conducted heat ageing trials on a polymer material and used the data to predict service life?
• How do you select between PA6, PA66, and PPA for an under-bonnet plastic component in a hot and humid environment?
• What mechanical tests do you run to characterise a new thermoplastic elastomer compound for a flexible connector application?
• Good Tamil and English communication skills for team coordination and client interaction in Chennai.
